After tireless efforts made by the government officials in recent weeks to counter the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, the new infection cases are dropping day by day giving hope to people who are eagerly looking towards gradual easing of pandemic related restrictions from May 28.

Along implementation of COVID-19 related curbs in offices and public places in cooperation of people who strictly followed government’s decisions, the fast pace vaccination in the country has played an important role in bringing the number of new cases down as Qatar is set to cross administering 2 million vaccine doses.

New daily COVID-19 cases reported in the country dropped below 300 on Thursday (May 13) for the first time since end of January while the number further dropped yesterday when only 244 cases were reported.

In recent days, over 30,000 vaccine doses were administered in the country daily and the Ministry of Public Health has also announced vaccine registration for people aged 30 and above. Definitely the eligibility of people with 30 years of age and above will include a large segment of society in coming days bringing wider protection against COVID-19 for the entire population.

Children aged from 12 to 15 years are to be offered the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in Qatar and the validity for quarantine exemption of all vaccines administered in Qatar has been extended from the previously approved six months to nine months.

Offering the vaccine to 12-15-year-olds in Qatar will help to ensure a return to greater normality when the school year starts this coming September. Parents will be able to register their children to take the vaccine through the Ministry of Public Health website (www.moph.gov.qa) from Sunday 16 May, after which they will be contacted by the Primary Health Care Corporation.

Chair of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases at Hamad Medical Corporation, Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal said: “Getting our young people vaccinated will not only protect them against the virus but will give us the opportunity to have less restrictions in schools in the future and may significantly reduce the interruptions to the education system that we have seen at times during the pandemic.”

As new coronavirus cases are declining in the country, Qatar has announced phased easing of COVID-19 restrictions from May 28. Despite all these facts it is still very important for people to continue following precautionary to completely curb the pandemic.
