Busy seven weeks!

The busiest six or seven weeks of the domestic sports season has kicked off in Qatar. A day after Qatar successfully concluded the FIFA Club World Cup 2020 event on Thursday, the Qatar Stars League resumed after three weeks of break on Saturday. Three more matches on Sunday including that of Al Duhail - who appeared in the FIFA Club World Cup last week - concluded the round of 16 matches in the Qatar Stars League. 

The Qatar Stars League Management will also hold Qatar Cup matches this coming week followed by the Amir Cup games that will run into most of March and April. The Qatar Volleyball Association is also about to conclude the Qatar Cup event. On Saturday, Police team reached the final of by beating Qatar SC (3-1) while Al Ahli edged past Al Arabi (3-2). 

Also on Saturday, the Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF) staged the Amir Sword Endurance Race featuring 57 riders in the marathon battle across the Sealine desert. In the coming days (Feb 18-20), the QEF will stage the Amir Sword Festival in show jumping, a hugely popular event for equestrian lovers. During the same window, the Amir Sword Horse Racing Festival will offer millions of dollars in prize money as horse racing fans will get to see their favourite event of the year at Al Rayyan Race Track. 

At the end of this month, Al Shaqab will organise the 8th edition of Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab. Al Shaqab’s signature equestrian competition will take place from February 25-27, at the Longines Arena at Al Shaqab. A few days later, the same venue will host the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) and Global Champions League 2021 season openers from March 4 to 6. The massively popular 16-leg series will kick off in Doha. 

At the start of March, tennis fans will witness a first - two back-to-back events - the Qatar Total Open (Mar 1-6) and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open (Mar 8-13) at the iconic Khalifa Tennis Complex. 

This year tennis icon and three-time former champion Roger Federer will launch his new season right here in Doha. Also in March, golf fans will see the annual European Tour event the Qatar Masters (Mar 11-14) at Education City Golf Course. This year Qatar will stage the first two races of the MotoGP World Championship (Grand Prix in Qatar, March 26-28 and the Grand Prix of Doha, April 2-4).
