As Israeli aggression continues with paperweight opposition by the West, the settlers grow emboldened with their actions, statements and plans for the Palestinian people and their lands. Already, more than 11,000 have been killed by Israel while it has continuously attacked hospitals and schools – all under the flimsy and unfounded justification of Hamas’s presence.
Yesterday, the Israeli occupation forces attacked and shelled the headquarters of the Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza – a blatant violation of international law, which, in hindsight, Israel seems to be oblivious to the fact.
The attack is an extension of the occupation’s approach in targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, schools, population centres, and shelters for displaced persons. It doesn’t take a PhD education or to be in a top government position, and it matters not what religion or creed one follows to see that Israel is clearly riding on the support or lack of reproach from influential nations to carry out its vile and genocidal campaign on Palestine.
The unnecessary shelling of the Qatar Committee for the Reconstruction of Gaza serves no purpose other than the occupation’s twisted idea of oppression and superiority.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, Qatar emphasised that the bombing of the committee’s headquarters is simply a strategy by the settlers to target civilians and hinder the committee’s work, which involves alleviating the suffering of the population due to the long blockade and ongoing aggression. Other countries in the region, including Oman, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, have also issued separate statements denouncing Israel’s targeting of the Gaza Reconstruction Committee.
Oman’s foreign ministry called it a “gross violation of international law,” and Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry urged the international community “to hold Israel accountable according to International Humanitarian Law.” Jordan’s foreign ministry, on the other hand, slammed the attack on the organisation as “a heinous war crime to add to Israel’s criminal record.” At the same time, the GCC Secretary General, Jassim Muhammad Al Budaiwi, said that the attack was “more evidence of brutality and recklessness of Israeli occupation forces.” Once again, it is imperative that the international community hold Israel accountable for its repeated crimes against civilians and public infrastructure. It cannot be stressed enough that Israel must be pressured and made to comply with international laws.
Targeting infrastructure that provides much-needed aid in Gaza using unsubstantial justifications and misleading information should not be tolerated.
