Qatar has emerged as a global sporting hub by organising major regional and international tournaments and finally the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. It is the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted in the Middle East and the Arab world and the most geographically compact since the inaugural edition in 1930.
The tournament is a tremendous opportunity for the region to welcome and connect with billions of people from across the globe, showcasing its unique identity and culture and building new bridges of understanding. A key objective of the World Cup is that it serves as a catalyst for the achievement of Qatar’s long-term development goals as laid out in the Qatar National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2018-2022.
Qatar is bursting onto the global stage with an estimated five billion people – more than half the population of Earth – expected to tune in to FIFA World Cup games.
The country will host a vast array of cultural and entertainment activities for the fans, visitors and the public to make the tournament a really memorable occasion.
The FIFA has published on its official website a tourist guide to the cities, landmarks and activities that fans can explore during their visit to Qatar during the World Cup, which begins on November 20 and ends on December 18.
A number of official and private institutions have prepared a rich programme of cultural, artistic and entertainment events for the public. Qatar Museums was among the first to announce its activities to accompany this global event. Their activities include 17 exhibitions in five museums.
Katara Cultural Village will organise 51 events and 300 sub-events. It will also host concerts by bands from Argentina, the UK and Arab countries. Moreover, Katara will organise art exhibitions and events from Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Ecuador, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Mexico, Indonesia and Iran. Qatar Foundation has also revealed the set of events and activities that Education City will host throughout the World Cup.
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy will organise hundreds of events. The SC has released a 54-page guide with all the details of the activities.
The guide contains many statistical figures, including 12 archaeological sites and castles that will be available to visitors during the tournament along with 23 museums as well as allocating 33 kilometres of tracks for cycling enthusiasts, more than 3,000 restaurants and 30 shopping centres.
