Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani led well-wishers to welcome President of Egypt HE Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on his arrival yesterday at the Amiri Terminal of Hamad International Airport.

The two-day official visit by the President of Egypt to Qatar has great significance as the two countries try to build on their historic relations, which received fresh momentum after the visit of HH the Amir to Egypt in June. Many ministerial-level visits and discussions followed and bilateral relations between the two countries only deepened with many agreements signed for cooperation and investments in various fields.

As part of the economic cooperation, Qatar and Egypt signed an investment agreement worth $5bn a few months back, which is expected to strengthen the economic and investment cooperation between the two brotherly countries, as per the official statement issued at that time. The current visit by the Egyptian President will further strengthen the ties and will also give a chance for discussing the various developments in the region and across the world.

Qatar and Egypt share a historic bond from the time the first ambassador of Qatar to Egypt submitted his credentials in 1972. The first ambassador of Egypt to Qatar also presented his credentials in the same year. Since then, the relations have grown in all spheres, be it cultural or political. A large number of Egyptian expatriates live in Qatar and work in various public and private sectors.

Similarly, a number of Egyptian companies work in the Qatari market, and also many Qatar companies have investments in Egypt in different sectors like real estate and oil, including investments by the Qatar Investment Authority estimated to be about $3.317 billion in resorts and tourism projects.  As the Arab League Summit and the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly are due in the coming months, these meetings and consultations will help coordinate all developments and various issues affecting Arab security, aspirations and legitimate rights of the brotherly Arab people.

Bilateral meetings at the leadership level will help form a unified front to achieve Arab unity and regional security and stability, as well as serve Arab interests and positions in various forums.

Ambassador of Qatar to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the Arab League HE Salem Mubarak Al Shafi on Monday said in a statement that he is confident that the visit of the Egyptian President to Qatar will culminate in results that will achieve the aspirations of the peoples of the two brotherly countries in all fields and will establish an unprecedented breakthrough in the process of cooperation between them.
