Qatar’s rapid economic growth within the past two decades has motivated young Qataris to play key roles in all areas of economic and social development. In light of the Qatar National Vision 2030 which aspires to build a safe, secure and stable society and firmly commits to creating a vibrant and prosperous future for the entire population, the State has provided young Qataris with multiple opportunities through quality education and wide range of other options.

This is in addition to the essential guidance helping them to identify opportunities and continuous support while they gain experience through active involvement in different fields. Therefore, Qatari youth today are increasingly well educated and vocal, proclaiming their aspirations and making their views known not only within their own societies but across the region and the globe.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports recently announced that work is underway on drafting the Qatar National Youth Document which represents a common national vision that defines the needs and priorities of youth, engages youth in decision-making processes, and affirms the integration of youth in achieving development.

The document is being prepared by the Department of Youth Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Sports to precisely define the way to achieve the State’s strategies in the youth sector.

In order to come out with a document that reflects interests, ambitions and aspiration of the youth, the Department conducted a survey that included 1,400 Qatari youth and discussed six main pillars of Youth National Policy that focuses on national priorities of Qatari youth.

These pillars focus on education, research, innovation, employment and entrepreneurship and private sector in addition to youth health, full and effective participation of youth, the relationship between youth and means of communication and information technology and then youth and environment.

The Department noted that consultative sessions with the youth, both specialized and general topics are going on, with the aim of coming up with a draft of Qatar’s national youth policy through active role of the youth in drafting the document.

Youth’s involvement in planning of their future is a wise step that deserves appreciation, as youth in this digital age are learning, thinking, and communicating in ways that are different from those of previous generations.

Therefore, their empowering and development always remain essential for ensuring prosperous future for the nation. As well Qatar’s economy has expanded at breathtaking speed and aspirations of achieving economic diversification necessitate building of human capital to create more productive, skilled and motivated youth.
