Fighting COVID-19 collectively

Overcoming any crisis requires solidarity, understanding and collective effort from all in any nation. Qatar is gifted to have all these at any time to face any crisis. It was evident when the neighbouring countries imposed an unjust blockade and the nation defeated it collectively. Unfazed, committed and steadfast, now the nation as a whole is fighting COVID-19.

With the total number of COVID-19 cases in Qatar nearing 3,000, the State is fighting this pandemic tooth and nail under the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Various Qatari institutions, media, individuals and other organisations are taking all possible measures on a war footing to restrain this global threat.

By disinfecting public places very diligently across various municipalities, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment showed utmost care on the safety of residents and ensured that the disease is not spread. By inspecting various food outlets and closing down many for violating the norms, the Ministry is staying vigilant during this difficult period.

The Ministry of Public Heath, on the other hand, is keeping on reminding residents about health guidelines to be followed strictly to avoid getting infected. The supermarkets, shops, offices and all were given a set of instructions to ensure the safety of public. Qatar Airways, like always, remained unflinching in its duty and kept on bringing citizens back to Qatar from various countries and also helped expatriates reach home.

The role played by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is laudable as they not only focused on providing the best care to people who were ill, but also addressed the mental condition of residents who were stressed and depressed due to the unforeseen circumstances. HMC launched a helpline number to console people who are experiencing stress and distress.

The Ministry of Public Health has also activated a set of remote access channels to healthcare services at Primary Health Care Corporation and Hamad Medical Corporation. The new virtual healthcare services have been developed to ensure the safety of everyone. By launching a distance learning system for all students, including students with disabilities, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education ensured continued and flawless education process during this time.

Qatar National Library offered online reading and also supported distance learning programmes. Qatar Foundation has come up with a number of tips for people to stay safe and active during isolation period.
The role played by the media in disseminating accurate and timely information on the crisis was also praiseworthy. In fact, the nation stands united in the fight against COVID-19 and progresses tremendously in wiping out the virus from the land of Qatar.
