Hamad International Airport (HIA) is the world’s best Airport and consecutive winner of the Skytrax Award, including this year, for Best Airport in the World 2022.
HIA as an international hub seeks to take passengers’ experiences to a new horizon through various aspects of comfort and pleasure, by meeting their needs for shopping and enjoying various cuisines from all over the world.

Yesterday, the airport (HIA) officially unveiled its impressive airport expansion project to the world, enriching passengers’ experiences and transforming HIA into an extraordinary destination where any journey is worthwhile. The new expansion was inaugurated by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, who toured the new passenger terminals and was briefed on their capacities, various facilities and equipment, and the related development in all operational processes including the modern system used to receive travellers, Qatar's guests, and fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
“The opening of our newly expanded terminal further connects the growing number of travelers to all corners of the world, enriching people’s experiences and proudly representing the State of Qatar’s rich culture and prestige,” said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker.
During the various stages of its development, Hamad International Airport took the leading role that awaits it when hosting the World Cup and that is why the developers of this giant project wanted to celebrate the region’s heritage and culture and the wider world’s arts and innovations. This was possible by offering passengers an airport experience that is different by placing masterpieces created by local, regional and international artists throughout the airport.
HIA continues to transform the industry with innovative experiences and breathtaking features as the airport looks to a bright, sustainable future. In collaboration with Qatar Museums, HIA offered passengers ‘Discover the Art of the Airport’, which is a unique walking tour through an immersive experience where guests can view impressive sculptures and art installations by leading artists from around the world.
The new expansion included the inauguration of ORCHARD which is an indoor tropical garden with a beautiful water feature located at the center of the terminal expansion. The ORCHARD is set to elevate passengers’ experiences and redefine airport travel, with its different floras from around the world including over 300 trees and over 25,000 plants.
