Delivering the best

Following its own slogan ‘Qatar deserves the best’, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is delivering the best possible infrastructure development services in this hour of crisis to address the COVID-19 challenge.

Ashghal is not only ensuring health and safety of workers at different construction sites but has also developed medical quarantine complex in a record time and that too meeting all international standards. 

At the request of the Ministry of Public Health, the Public Works Authority has set up a 3,000-bed medical quarantine hospital within 72 hours and work is under way to have another 8,500-bed centre soon. 

Ashghal said on Thursday on its Twitter account that the complex in Umm Salal on completion will be able to accommodate 12,500 beds. Eng. Fatima Al Meer said that upon completion, the medical quarantine complex in Umm Salal will be able to accommodate 12,500 beds. 

Ashghal also said that the field quarantine hospital has a recreational facility to accommodate 600 people with diverse sports activities along with iPads. It will also have a dining room to serve 900 people, taking into consideration the safe social distancing between seats. 

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani also visited on Thursday the medical insulation complex and hospital in Umm Salal, to inspect the readiness of the complex set up by the state within the national implementation plan to combat the novel coronavirus.

H E the Prime Minister was briefed on the medical capabilities and facilities of the complex and the hospital prepared for medical isolation for those infected with the novel coronavirus. The medical insulation complex and hospital has a capacity of 12,500 beds and is equipped with all the necessary amenities, safety, and health requirements. 

During the visit, His Excellency met with the staff of the complex, including doctors, nurses and volunteers, and thanked them for their efforts in their positions at the front lines to confront the COVID-19 epidemic, urging them to provide all possible medical and humanitarian services to help the infected. 

Recently, the Public Works Authority in coordination with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) also launched severe inspection campaigns at workplaces and labor accommodations to confirm the compliance of contracting companies in implementing the precautionary and preventive measures taken by Ashghal based on the directives of MADLSA.
