A sense of utmost pride and patriotism fills the air for every citizen and expatriate residing in Qatar.
This year more so because Qatar, under the wise leadership of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, has weathered the unjust siege, imposed six months ago, in a very professional manner. To promote national cohesion in society, Qatar National Day which falls on December 18, is being held under the theme of ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory’ this year.
The 10-day celebrations, which kicked off to a grand start yesterday at Darb Al Saai, aims to highlight people’s patriotism and solidarity for their leadership. National Day commemorates the anniversary of the establishment of Qatar by the late Founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani.
According to the Speaker of the Advisory Council, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud: “The crisis has cemented Qatar’s relations with true friends within GCC countries and with sincere friends in all countries of the world, and noted that the country has accomplished great achievements under the siege and the economy continues to record the highest growth rates in the region despite all attempts to disrupt and damage it. This is what H H the Emir meant when he promised glory and prosperity.”
The siege has proved that the Qatari people have a strong sense of awareness, conscience, high moral standard and national prestige. Minister of Development Planning and Statistics H E Dr Saleh Mohamed Salem Al Nabit said this year’s theme carries a strong message to the whole world about the unity and cohesion of the people of Qatar with all the values of loyalty, solidarity and unity, which emphasises the greatness of the people of Qatar, and this great generation which has left a proud, sovereign and free country.
The Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, Dr Ali bin Sumaikh Al Marri, said: “The National Day has made a difference in the history of the country and the people of Qatar. It became a starting point for the establishment of the modern state. It is, also, a day to cherish the past, the flourishing present and the promising future of this country.”
Qatar has, over the years, preserved its historical heritage and cultural identity, despite rapid advancements on many fronts. The development and rapid steps witnessed in Qatar are being admired and appreciated by the whole world.
Qatar National Day is an occasion of renewed loyalty and is celebrated by all citizens and residents alike to promote loyalty, unity, and pride in Qatar’s national identity.
