Over 50 percent of Qatar’s adult population have been fully vaccinated, according to data from the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). The National COVID-19 Vaccination Program has administered 2,716,670 COVID-19 vaccine doses since the start of the program.
According to Bloomberg’s vaccine data, more than 2.19 billion doses have been administered across 178 countries. The latest rate was roughly 37.8 million doses a day.
At least 210 countries and territories have started their vaccination rollouts. Qatar’s strategy has set the pace for the country to achieve herd immunity sooner rather than later. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus and the eventual lockdown, Qatar has smartly introduced policies to prevent the spread of the virus. The several field hospitals and the excellent health infrastructure put the country at the fore of the COVID-19 response.
According to the released figures, 50.4% of those 16 and over have received two doses, while 67.1% have received one. The percentage of people over 40 years of age to receive one dose stands at 86.2%, with 73.5% completing the course.
Meanwhile, 93.8% of those aged 60 and above received the first dose, with 86.6% of this age group now fully vaccinated. Like other countries, Qatar experienced a second wave, but the policymakers were swift to introduce measures to ensure public safety and continuous economic activities. Wearing masks, limiting the number of people at offices, gatherings and ensuring movement is restricted to only those with a green Ehteraz app status has dramatically helped in the fight against the pandemic. In early May, MoPH and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry (MoCI) introduced a four-phase plan for the gradual lifting of restrictions following a remarkable drop in daily infections.
However, with the vaccination, the strategy of administering shots to vulnerable people and essential workers and gradually into other levels of the demography ensured Qatar’s population would all be vaccinated in record time. Vaccinated Qatari citizens and residents can now visit several countries as global tourism gradually opens to visitors.
Now, vaccinated individuals can gather indoors, outdoors and engage in regular activities at a 30% capacity. Recently, Head of Vaccination at MoPH, Dr. Soha Al Bayat, said non-vaccinated individuals would enjoy the same privileges as those who have received the full dosage of the vaccine once the country reaches its target.
Meanwhile, ensuring fair vaccine distribution globally, Qatar provided 400,000 vaccines to Paraguay. President Mario Abdo Benitez, in a call, thanked the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for the medical aid.
