Qatar’s efforts in the past few years have helped the country to emerge as a quality healthcare destination. Presence of world class healthcare in the country has ensured that the best possible services is available not just for the residents but also to the people in the region.
Like other sectors, Qatar’s healthcare system is also undergoing rapid development to meet the requirements and new challenges of changing demographics, disease patterns and other needs. The premier healthcare provider in the country - Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) - is continuously expanding and developing its facilities and services in order to meet the demands of Qatar’s rapidly growing population.
Qatar’s ambitions and strategies for education and health sectors give the country a remarkable distinction in global community and have placed the State at the leading position in the region. Around 18 months ago, HMC launched the biggest healthcare expansion in the region, set to be completed by end of December 2017. The expansion creates seven new major hospitals in Qatar with more than 1,100 new hospital beds.
The seven hospitals include Communicable Diseases Center, Women’s Wellness and Research Center, Ambulatory Care Center, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute and three new Industrial Area Hospitals in Doha, Al Khor and Mesaieed Industrial Areas to meet the healthcare needs of the male laborer population.
The new hospitals and facilities meant to revolutionise healthcare delivery in Qatar by increasing bed capacity and giving patients faster access to specialised care where and when needed. The delivery of these seven new hospitals – including new facilities for women’s health and the region’s first specialist ambulatory care center - reinforces Qatar’s and HMC’s commitment to giving the people of Qatar high quality, world-class hospitals, facilities and healthcare.
There has already been significant progress against this program of work, such as the recent opening of clinics and services in the Communicable Disease Center, Qatar Rehabilitation Institute, Women’s Wellness and Research Center and Ambulatory Care Center at HMC’s new Medical City complex.
Once fully operational, the facilities will house 500 new hospital beds and 3,000 highly trained clinical and support staff. Between June and August this year these facilities recorded 20,000 outpatient visits.
Also a health centre integrated with the Ras Laffan Hospital has been handed over to the HMC in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health by the Private Engineering Office.
The new facilities represents the biggest healthcare facility expansion in the region and bring new services and care options to the people of Qatar. It is also demonstrating Qatar’s and HMC’s commitment to provide the best possible care to Qatar’s population.
