With the visit to Tajikistan yesterday, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, concluded his tour to a number of friendly countries in Central Asia at the invitation of their leaders.
Amir’s visit to these countries began with a visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, followed by the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, and then the Republic of Kazakhstan, where he participated in the Astana International Forum.
The Amir’s visit to these countries is expected to contribute to developing relations with Qatar, supporting and promoting them and moving them to advanced phases of strategic partnerships, especially in economic, trade and investment. This will benefit the people of Qatar and Central Asia.
Qatar’s relationship with the Republic of Tajikistan goes back to December 1994, when the two countries agreed to establish diplomatic ties. The Embassy of Qatar was inaugurated in Dushanbe on November 2, 2012, while the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan was inaugurated in Doha on October 5, 2011.
Since then, the bilateral ties have been promoted to a high level of durability and excellence and steadfast development at various levels and areas of mutual interest.
This has been further enhanced by the exchange of official visits at the highest levels and the most important of which is the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in 2019 to Tajikistan and the official visit of President H E Emomali Rahmon to Qatar in May 2007.
These high-level official visits and consultation meetings at the ministerial, trade and investment levels have strengthened these relations, resulting in signing of some agreements and memorandums of understanding covering several fields of cooperation and areas of common interests.
As part of the continued political consultations and coordination between the two countries, political talks round was held in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe, last May between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, where the two parties discussed bilateral cooperation on a broad range of topics.
Furthermore, the existing relations are also strengthened by spiritual and historical ties, commonalities between the Tajik and Qatari peoples, and the existing and fraternal relations between the leadership.
It is crucial to note that the leadership of the two countries have given high priority to developing mutually beneficial relations and expanding ties to a long-term partnership through continuous cooperation in political, economic, investment, social, cultural, education, healthcare, tourism and other spheres.
