The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is not only successfully executing various development projects and that too with the support of local companies and local products but also represented by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar doing a great job towards environmental sustainability.
At the one hand, Ashghal is building mega projects based on sustainable designs and on the other making Qatar green with plantation of trees in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) and other state organisations.
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar had launched the ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign to ‘Plant Million Trees’ in September 2019, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).
On Thursday, the Committee achieved a milestone when it crossed 300,000 trees within the campaign. H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums, joined the attendees and a group of children in planting a number of trees in the Post Office Plaza.
H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani said, “Ashghal is a close partner of Qatar Museums, through its participation in several initiatives, including Jedariart, the newly-launched public art initiative, which brings life to the city walls based on the concept that public art contributes to stimulate debates on issues of the present, including the environment.”
The campaign of the Committee aims to involve kids of Qatar in planting 1,000,000 trees across the country, primarily to emphasise that protection and preservation of the environment is everyone’s social responsibility. The initiative also aims to increase green areas in the country, improve quality of life at large through environment protection, and improve air quality through minimising carbon emissions and its negative impacts on climate change.
The Committee works in coordination with several ministries and other entities of the State such as Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, Private Engineering Bureau among others.
Ashghal is also continuing the implementation of Packages 2 & 3 of Doha Central Development and Beautification Projects, within the works of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar. Under packages 2 and 3, 24km roads will be developed and 4650 trees will be planted in the area that covers 6 zones including 7 main streets.
