As part of the preparations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 authorities have been expanding the infrastructure of the country at a very rapid pace to welcome the thousands of fans who will arrive in Qatar to witness the biggest celebration of the beautiful game of football.
In addition to the roads, bridges, stadiums, and various buildings and entertainment options, Qatar has also been spending considerable efforts in expanding and developing the facilities at its various ports of entry. These will not only serve Qatar 2022 preparations but will also play a key role in expanding the commercial interest of the country.
The last few months have seen some considerable expansion at the land port of Abu Samra Border Crossing, which will now serve travellers to and from Qatar with more than double the previous capacity after the increase in the number of passenger vehicle service lanes.
The increase in service lanes will speed up the procedures at the border for incoming travellers, especially for fans coming for Qatar 2022, when a huge influx of visitors is expected through the land port.
Other than the World Cup, the development of the port will also contribute to enhancing Qatar’s commercial and industrial activity by facilitating the movement of goods, materials and people to and from the country through its land port. As Qatar is focusing on promoting tourism even after the World Cup, the upgraded land port will play a crucial role in the future welcoming the tourists who are coming by road. A smooth and swift entry into the country will not only save time for the incoming visitors but will also create a good first impression in their minds.
The recent development at the border crossing includes a passenger hall to serve the fans coming to Qatar during the 2022 World Cup, increasing the capacity of Passport Buildings for arrivals and departures to 24 vehicles each and Customs Building for arrivals to 36 vehicles. There are also 48 Tourist tracks with a capacity to serve 12,000 cars entering Qatar and 12,000 cars leaving Qatar.
The passenger hall will serve 4,000 visitors per hour with 44 passport counters and 22 customs inspections to serve the masses coming to Qatar. There is also provision for 4,500 temporary parking lots to serve the World Cup.
After the World Cup, the enhanced facilities at the port will make the whole process of entry into and exit from Qatar a very smooth and swift process for all. This has also got commercial benefits as every minute saved by trucks at the border is money saved and a reduction in the cost of goods transported.
