Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was accorded yesterday an official reception ceremony upon his arrival at Ala Archa State Residence in the Kyrgyz capital, Bishkek, on the second leg of his Central Asian Tour, which began on Monday with the touch down at Samarkand, Uzbekistan. To highlight the importance and significance of H H the Amir’s visit to the country, he was welcomed at Manas International Airport by H E Kyrgyz Republic President Sadyr Japarov, who led a large delegation comprising senior members of his cabinet and top officials to receive the August Visitor.
H E the President of the Kyrgyz Republic described the visit of H H the Amir to his country as ‘historic and important,’ especially since H H the Amir is the first Arab leader to pay an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Kyrgyz Republic President noted that he was very pleased with the visit of H H the Amir to Kyrgyzstan, noting that the cooperation between the two countries is moving in the right direction towards continuous development. He added that the visit will highlight the available capabilities to strengthen cooperation and will be an important factor for the implementation of bilateral projects in the near future, as several agreements are expected in a number of fields to create the appropriate conditions for cooperation, and many projects will be implemented within the framework of these agreements.
Historically, diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on March 3, 1998, and the Qatari embassy was opened in Bishkek on October 2, 2012. Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kyrgyz Republic presented his credentials to H E President of the Kyrgyz Republic on October 30, 2013, and the Kyrgyz Republic opened its embassy in Doha in September 2015, while H E Ambassador of the Kyrgyz Republic presented his credentials to H H the Amir on March 3, 2016.
Since that date, relations between the two friendly countries have developed at a rapid pace as official visits have been intensively exchanged at various levels. In this context, H E the former Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev paid two visits to Doha during the years 2014 and 2015, where H H Amir received him and held official talks with him on bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance, support, and develop them in various fields, especially economics and investment, in addition to reviewing several issues of mutual interest. The friendship and cooperation relations between the two countries are characterized as strong and solid and reflect the keenness of the leaderships of the two countries to develop them in various fields.
With H H Amir’s visit to Kyrgyzstan, Qatar is continuing its tradition of strengthening bilateral relations globally and reaffirming its position as a country of repute among the comity of nations.
