Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday reiterated the firm stance of the State of Qatar towards the Palestinian cause and support for the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate national rights during a meeting with the Prime Minister of the State of Palestine, H E Dr. Mohammad Shtayyeh, who is on a visit to the country.
Similar meetings were held with the Palestinian President, and the Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), recently. This confirms that the Qatar’s relations with the Palestinians are not short-sighted or limited to a party, rather they stem from its principled stance and commitment to the Palestinian brothers living under Israeli occupation.
As Qatar is one of the most steadfast supporters of this issue, everyone knows that Qatar’s unwavering support to the Palestinian issue is based on its firm position regarding its fairness and principled stance that Palestinians should enjoy all of their political rights including rights to religious practice and establishing an independent state based on the borders of 1967 with East Al Quds as its capital.
Qatar believes that as long as there is no light at the end of the tunnel and the occupation of the Palestine territories continues and Israeli stubbornness does not give any hope for real peace, the Palestine cause will remain as a major reason for the instability in the region.
As well Qatari aid is directed to all Palestinians and being utilised in coordination and knowledge of all bodies concerned including the United Nations, with high transparency, as the funds either are for needy families, education, health or fuel prices are being officially announced. No one could deny that the Qatari aid allowed for the continued functioning of the education system, as well as the steady supply of fuel ensuring electricity supply to the besieged population of Gaza.
Not only this, the Qatari aid helped thousands of Palestinian families to get homes through construction projects implemented by Qatar along distribution of charity aid to families in need living under prolonged Israeli siege.
The firm stance of the State of Qatar towards the Palestine cause is dictated by its moral duty as an Arab and Muslim country, and from its belief that without addressing the long-standing occupation issue all Israeli manoeuvres will remain meaningless.
The path that Israel has taken for 70 years is based on settling the issue through mass killings, destructions and grabbing of Palestinians’ land through brutal force and this is not a path that could lead to permanent peace in any form whatsoever.
