Qatar's humanitarian and development initiatives, whether in the education or infrastructure field, have been making a huge difference in the lives of millions of people across the world.

Even at this trying times when every country is struggling with the debilitating attack of COVID-19, Qatar has been keen in helping fellow countries with sending medical supplies and extending financial help where ever needed.

Qatar, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has been offering aid to every corner of the world directly or through different organisations such as the United Nations. QFFD has participated in launching the Lives and Livelihood (LLF), the largest development initiative in the Middle East.

The LLF, established in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank Group IsDB), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a number of regional and international partners, aims to improve financing models and innovative partnerships, focusing on issues of extreme poverty and support for maginalised people with the goal of achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Qatar has contributed $50m out of the total $500m capital of the LLF, which provides developing countries with funds estimated at $2bn.

During its chairmanship of the LLF from March 2019 to March 2020, QFFD has been keen on providing financial assistance to developing and the poorest countries in the Islamic world through multi-regional and international partnerships. Qatar has always championed the wholesome development of every country, especially in the Islamic world, through its pioneering efforts in improving education, providing employment opportunities, developing infrastructure facilities and improving the living conditions of millions of people, lifting the most deprived people out of poverty and helping developing countries achieve SDGs.

The LLF, as the largest development initiative in the Middle East, works to improve financing models and innovative partnerships in order to achieve the SDGs and to help IsDB member states to achieve these goals, utilising the practical experience of their partners in strengthening the targeted sectors.

The SDGs, also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that everybody enjoys peace and prosperity by 2030. The 17 integrated SDGs recognise the action in one area will affect outcome in others ensuring that development must be balanced with social, economic and environmental sustainability.

The SDGs strongly align with the policy Qatar has been pursuing for the past several decades, that is, while ensuring the development and the progress of everybody inside the country by providing them with the best means available in the world, the state also makes great strides in seeing that the less-privileged people elsewhere in the world also enjoy the fruits of development in a peaceful atmosphere, free of conflicts, wars and calamities.
