Qatar has been a reliable partner of the UN and other multilateral organisations in advancing sustainable development across the globe. The state has been particularly engaged in global efforts to assist the underdeveloped and developing nations, raising living standards for millions of people. Qatari institutions including the Qatar Funds for Development have been instrumental in advancing the global development agenda.
This week, Qatar participated in Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs), which is taking place in Awaza, Turkmenistan. The conference aims to explore solutions and forge partnerships, addressing challenges facing the landlocked countries and helping them achieve prosperity and development. Qatar’s delegation, comprising representatives from various agencies, was headed by Minister of State for International Cooperation H E Dr. Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad. At the conference, Qatar reaffirmed its position as a strategic partner in global development efforts, and demonstrated its unwavering support for the aspirations of vulnerable nations, particularly LLDCs, which face significant structural challenges in trade, transport, and economic integration.
Guided by the wise leadership of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, Qatar has emerged as a leading force in multilateral cooperation. From hosting the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries in 2023 to preparing for the mid-term review of the Doha Program of Action in 2027, Qatar consistently plays a convening and catalytic role in international development dialogues.
Through the Qatar Fund for Development, the country is financing key projects that enhance food security and strengthen crisis-response capacities. Qatar’s partnership with the UN and World Bank, such as its innovative debt-for-education initiative, demonstrates its commitment to sustainable, human-centred development. By supporting the Awaza Program of Action (2024–2034) and expressing readiness to host the Second World Summit for Social Development, Qatar is reaffirming its global leadership role, prioritising shared progress, equity, and opportunity. It’s actions reflect a clear vision: development must be inclusive, sustainable, and built on global solidarity. Through its endeavours, it is not just responding to global needs, it is actively shaping global solutions.
