Sports in Qatar got a big boost with the launching of the Qatar Collegiate Sports Federation (QCSF), which will promote sports culture at the college level.

The QCSF, which announced its message, vision and objectives during a press conference at the Qatar Olympic Committee’s (QOC) headquarters last week, is expected to play a crucial role by scouting out young talent and groom the athletes for their participation at the international stage.

The QCSF, headed by Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Naimi, aims to build better sport activities for students of higher education institutions, including universities, colleges and institutes in the country. Taking university sports to a new level of excellence locally, regionally and internationally is the other major task for the body.

The launching of the QCSF is yet another step in promotion of sports in the country as sports gets unlimited support from the Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. At the launch, the QCSF chief thanked the QOC President H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and the QOC Secretary General, Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain for their help in formation of the body.

The QCSF will act as a complementary level to the sport activities being organised at the primary, intermediate and secondary schools throughout Schools Olympic Program.

Sport will continue to play a key role in Qatar 2030 National Vision, and the QCSF, which has vowed to give its best to reach its targets, is determined to make its contribution towards making the country a leading sport nation.

The launching of QCSF received appreciation, with the Qatar University (QU) lauding QOC’s effort that led to establishment of the body. Asmaa Al Naemi, Director of Sports Affairs, who is also a member of the QCSF Board of Directors, said the federation will help students to showcase their talent and build their skills besides boosting their physical and mental health.

With Qatar taking the lead in hosting local, continental, and global events, the national athletes have been making significant progress by excelling in major international competitions including the Olympics and the World Championships.

The formation of QCSF will certainly accelerate the process of athletes’ progress and Qatar is expected to benefit a lot from it at the world stage in the future.
