As part of a tour of Central Asia Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani visited the Republic of Uzbekistan. Bilateral relations between Doha and Tashkent were established in November 1997 by signing a protocol to forge diplomatic relations between the two countries at the ambassadorial level.
Since then, it has been growing at every level and this visit by H H the Amir to Uzbekistan will contribute to further development of friendly relations between the two countries. It will enhance political dialogue, and enrich trade, economy, and investment between the two countries. Many agreements and memoranda of understanding between the governments of the two countries were signed yesterday in the presence of H H the Amir and the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan H E Shavkat Mirziyoyev. These included agreements on recruiting workers, higher education and scientific research, cooperation in the field of culture, agriculture, and food security, and in the field of investment among others.
This building of relations between Qatar and Uzbekistan and the establishment of commercial, agricultural, and industrial partnerships will serve Qatar National Vision 2030 to achieve sustainable development that guarantees a better life for its people, as well as for the coming generations.
Qatar opened its embassy premises in Tashkent in May this year and in a speech during the ceremony, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi mentioned that the “opening of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Uzbekistan comes in implementation of the aspirations of the two countries’ leaders to promote bilateral relations and rapprochement between the two brotherly peoples.” The opening of embassy premises signifies deepening of diplomatic relations, allowing for direct and regular communications between the two governments.
Uzbekistan allows visa-free entry for citizens of Qatar, which is a boost for the travel and tourism sector and there were reports in the media that there are talks ongoing to operate direct flights between the two countries which will lead to increased travel giving further push to economy and tourism of the two countries.
As part of the Central Asia tour, H H the Amir arrived yesterday in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyz Republic, after concluding his visit to Uzbekistan. The President of the Kyrgyz Republic H E Sadyr Japarov described the visit as ‘historic and important’ as H H the Amir is the first Arab leader to pay an official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
