Qatar has been making steady progress through its tireless efforts in its aspiration to host the best FIFA World Cup ever in 2022. Since winning the bid to host the world’s most popular sport event in 2010, the country has been racing against time to make its dream come true by planning and preparing all the facilities such as world-class stadiums, infrastructure facilities, hassle-free transport, taking measures to ensure the safety and security of the players and thousands of spectators expected to descend on Doha. The announcement of the new joint venture, “FIFA World Cup 2022 LLC” comes as another great leap in the preparation for the World Cup.

The tournament entered into delivery mode with the formation of the joint venture by the State of Qatar and the world football governing body, the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), which will be entrusted with the task of organising the game’s showpiece event. This new delivery mode will capitalise on the efforts and planning expertise Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) has built up in the past nine years.

Creating the joint venture reflects Qatar’s shared vision represented by the SC and FIFA to facilitate the smooth operation and hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2022, which will be an unprecedented event for Qatar, the entire Arab World and third world countries.

FIFA’s professional capabilities and extensive experience in organising World Cup tournaments will add to the professionalism, hard work and the will and determination of the SC to deliver an exceptional World Cup experience for the players and fans in Qatar and all over the world. The SC Secretary-General, Hassan Al Thawadi, who is also the Chairman of the new entity, said: “The formation of this new joint venture comes at a strategically important time in Qatar’s World Cup project as we complete our various infrastructure projects such as stadiums and training sites and turn our attention to finalising the unique fan and player experience that Qatar 2022 will provide.”

Thawadi was very confident in saying that the combination of FIFA’s extensive tournament experience and the nine years hard work already invested in the project by the SC will ensure that the first FIFA World Cup in the Arab region is one of the best ever. The joint venture reiterates FIFA’s confidence in Qatar with regards to the preparation for the Cup, which represents an important step in the efforts of cooperation between Qatar and FIFA to deliver a successful tournament which will be remembered for decades to come for the legacy it is expected to leave behind.
