June 5, 2017 is the day that will be known in the history as the day when Gulf crisis suddenly erupted without having prior warning signs.
In previous years, the crisis seemed like a ball that was thrown upwards with extreme force to settle on a peak of a very high mountain while everyone remained at the bottom of the mountain looking at it with shock and surprise awaiting to know the direction it will roll to.
There were an abundance of speculations, analyses and predictions about the direction the ball will roll to, but the wait was long and almost everyone got tired of its descent from that peak until it suddenly started to gradually move towards the place where it started from before 42 months ago.
Whatever the reasons are, it is moving towards its natural place is welcomed by all, and without any doubt this is what have been awaited to happen for long, because there is no further extent the crisis can go beyond from this point, and the difference was about when and how things will return to normal.
Hope for resolving differences had not vanished rather everyone was waiting for this moment; the moment when the State of Kuwait issued a statement that the parties to the Gulf crisis reached to an agreement to settle differences. Certainly the late Amir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah would have been the happiest if he was alive today, but he passed away before he could deliver the news of victory over rifts.
Kuwait’s keenness to build peace and stability of the Gulf resulted in holding fruitful talks to achieve reconciliation and support Gulf and Arab solidarity and stability.
Qatar expressed its gratitude to the State of Kuwait and the United State for their mediation and efforts. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, who also said last month ‘when Gulf crisis ends all of us will be winners’.
Yes, no one is a loser, therefore many regional and global major powers have welcomed the step to put the Gulf crisis to an end. As has affirmed by the officials here, Qatar’s priority has been and will remain the interest and security of the peoples of the Gulf region. Qatar wants to see united Gulf countries a reality, which could be ensured through open dialogue, mutual respect and joint efforts to calm tension in the region.
