Reflecting the State of Qatar’s commitment to keep education on the top of priorities, Ministry of Education and Higher Education as well as various educational institutes from school to university level have celebrated Teachers’ Day 2018.
Teachers, rightly named as nation builders, were honoured by Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani who graced the celebrations of Teachers’ Day at Qatar National Convention Center.
The event was recognition of great services being rendered by teachers and the expression of State’s commitment towards education and welfare of nation builders.
Qatar is one of the developed countries in terms of the education system and the opportunities provided for students to receive education and achievement. In Qatar there is a teacher for every 12 students in the country, which is one of the best rates in the world.
The number of teachers in public schools currently stands at 14,037 teachers, and that the Ministry is seeking to attract the national cadres and expertise to the teaching profession through the development of a system to attract and evaluate teachers and building national capacities in the field of education.
Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Dr Mohamed bin Abdul Wahed Al Hammadi said at the occasion the celebration was a confirmation of Qatar’s national obligations and international commitments.
Al Hammadi explained that teachers will remain the basis of the educational process. He stressed that the State was bringing improvements in the financial and work conditions of teachers at the top of its priorities and had provided them with a safe and stable educational environment.
The Minister pointed out that the Ministry is keen to attract Qatari competencies for the teaching profession to build national capacities in the field of education including the evaluation of national programmes for recruiting teachers like “Tumoh” programme.
He stressed that these achievements for teachers in the State of Qatar require them to continue doing their best to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Unesco representative in Doha, Anna Paolini, in her speech, emphasised that education is a fundamental human right, it promotes peace, tolerance and social inclusion, as well as a critical factor in eradicating poverty and allows children and young people to fully utilise their potentials.
Paolini further noted that the sustainable development plan 2030, to which the international community had committed itself to called for education and universal access to early childhood as well as in primary and secondary education.
