Qatari leadership not only successfully managed COVID-19 pandemic in the country but also provided generous help to different countries and international organisations in their fight against the global health challenge. Qatar has also provided vaccines to many countries as well as has emerged as a voice for equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. The healthcare system of Qatar won the accolades for handling the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as the government was able to provide the best healthcare to each patient even at the peak of pandemic as well as timely vaccines to all.
Now the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) have announced their support for the #ACTogether campaign during the 2022 FIFA Arab Cup Qatar.
Using the platform of the first FIFA Arab Cup, the World Health Organization (WHO), FIFA and the Qatari authorities are launching the #ACTogether campaign to call for teamwork and unity to ensure equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments and tests.
A large proportion of the global population remains susceptible to infection and at an increased risk of severe disease and death, vaccine inequity persists in many parts of the world; of the nearly 7.5 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines administered globally by mid-November 2021, only 0.6% had been administered in low-income countries. On Qatar’s support for the #ACTogether, Minister of Public Health, H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, said: “The Ministry is proud to be partnered with FIFA and the WHO to promote global collaboration and ensure the safety and health of all while the pandemic remains managed in Qatar, it is present around the world.”
WHO Director-General, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said: “The emergence of the Omicron variant underlines the importance of global solidarity and working together to defeat the pandemic, I welcome the strong support from Qatar’s Ministry of Public Health, the SC, FIFA and partners to support this vital message on the occasion of the FIFA Arab Cup.”
Recently, Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri also confirmed the commitment of the State of Qatar to support efforts aimed at providing coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines and their access to all in a fair and equitable manner. He further pointed out that the State of Qatar provided, within the framework of its efforts more than $140m to support and for relief of those affected by the pandemic, benefiting 80 countries and many local and international organizations, as well as helping more than 3.1 million people return home.
