The historic FIFA Arab Cup 2021 is almost two months away but the hype for the eagerly-awaited tournament that will bring the Arab world together in Qatar for almost three weeks can already be felt. It will be the first-ever edition of the competition that is seen as a precursor for the big show – the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The high-profile tournament will kick off on November 30 with the opening match between hosts Qatar and Bahrain at the brand new Al Bayt Stadium – a FIFA World Cup venue – to be inaugurated along with Ras Abu Aboud Stadium during the event.
The FIFA Arab Cup will see 16 teams from around the Arab world in action as seven teams were eliminated during the qualifying stage of the tournament, earlier this year. Four other FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 venues – Al Thumama, Ahmed Bin Ali, Education City and Al Janoub stadiums will host the matches during the tournament. The event, which will give fans a glimpse of what to expect when Qatar hosts the World Cup one year later, will conclude on December 18 – the Qatar National Day at the Al Bayt Stadium.
The countdown of the FIFA Arab Cup began with the start of ticket sales last week. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis through the official FIFA ticketing website fifa.com/tickets. The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), ahead of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, has also launched the Fan ID programme.
Providing fans with free access to public transportation on match days throughout the tournament, the smart technology identification card will be mandatory for all ticket holders that want to attend matches. A mobile app will also be available for download ahead of the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, enhancing the overall fan experience.
“The launch of the Fan ID programme is a crucial step forward in our efforts to provide a memorable experience for fans in Qatar,” said Maryam Al Muftah, the SC’s Digital Services & Innovation Director. Fans planning to attend the FIFA Arab Cup 2021 will be able to apply for their Fan ID once they have paid for their match tickets and have received their ticket confirmation number.
The Arab Cup matches will surely produce thrilling matches, which will be a treat for all the fans. The tournament will also help Qatar test infrastructure and planning ahead of the World Cup. The country has a rich history of hosting world class events with success and with their vast experience; Qatar is expected to deliver the FIFA Arab Cup in a memorable fashion.
