The first successful lung transplant in Qatar shows the excellence of country’s healthcare system and infrastructure further reflecting success of country’s strategies and investments in this sector made in past years. This successful transplant has consolidated Qatar’s position in world nations providing best medical care to people.
Qatar’s organ transplant program offers kidney, liver and now lung transplant surgeries making HMC one of the most comprehensive transplant centers in the region. Owing to continuous investments and timely chalked-out strategies by the State, Qatar’s healthcare system had been ranked the best in the region in January this year.
Qatar had been ranked among top 20 countries in Numbeo Healthcare Index by Country 2021, scoring 73 points. H E the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior has also congratulated the medical team that carried out the operation, including surgeons, doctors and medical assistant technicians.
The Prime Minister praised and expressed appreciation for their efforts and expertise in conducting one of the most complex operations, wishing them well and further success in their careers. For lung transplant, Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) highly skilled multi-speciality surgical team was led by Professor Takahiro Oto, an internationally renowned expert in lung transplantation.
Minister of Public Health H E Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari has said the first lung transplant performed in Qatar was significant milestone for the country and demonstrated that patients here have access to outstanding levels of specialised care. “Being able to perform one of the most complicated and challenging surgical procedures like a lung transplant here in Qatar demonstrates the high standards of expertise and state-of-the-art technology our patients receive,” she added. In recent weeks, HMC has accomplished many achievements.
Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) Pulmonary Diagnostic Care Laboratory recently achieved its goal in July 2021 of being included in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) Registry, indicating adherence to the highest international standards of administering pulmonary function tests (PFTs). The Stroke Service at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has also recently successfully achieved Joint Commission International (JCI) re-accreditation as the primary stroke center.
