Along the completion of roads, bridges, underpasses and other infrastructure projects across the country, the authorities are also completing parks on a fast pace to provide residents with an opportunity to adopt healthy lifestyle. The parks offer a great opportunity to residents of all ages to spend not only a quality leisure time but also engage in open-air physical activity to maintain health and general wellbeing.

The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality, has announced the completion of 85% of the construction works in Al Furjan Parks in various areas across Qatar, including 14 parks with an area of 123,048 square meters containing various entertainment and sports facilities distributed over several municipalities.

The Ministry of Municipality is keen to provide Al Furjan parks in various municipalities in the country, especially areas that lack parks and green spaces, to contribute to providing recreational spaces for the residents of the area while ensuring easy access to them without the need to move to far places.

Earlier in April this year, the Minister of Municipality had inaugurated Rawdat Al Khail Park in Al Muntazah. The park, in an area of 140,000sqm, is one of the largest in the country featuring walkways, jogging track, cycle way, children’s play areas, fitness, barbecue, green areas, trees and other services for visitors. Rawdat Al Khail Park offers 1,183 metres long walkways, 1,119 metres jogging rack, 1,118 metres cycleway, 98,000sqm green areas, 1,600 trees, 40 bike racks, fitness areas with fitness equipment.

Eng. Muhammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, said: “The Committee was keen to implement Al Furjan Parks with the aim of contributing to the development of the public parks system in Qatar, in accordance with the country’s current directives in terms of increasing green areas, as it comes within the Committee’s plan to beautify different areas and provide all amenities for community members."

The implementation of Al Furjan Parks comes as a continuation of the committee’s efforts to protect the environment, improve the residents’ quality of life and achieve sustainable environmental development for all generations.

The work is also underway to complete construction works on Rawdat Egdaim, Al Mearad, Al Wajbah and Al Thumama parks, that will become healthy outlets for residents of those areas. These parks include many entertainment and sports facilities that make them an enjoyable destination for all family members.
