The power of dialogue

The world is passing through the most critical period of modern times as the repercussions of the scourge of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, the ongoing Russia Ukraine conflict, which is fast changing the geopolitical balance, and other provocative actions arising from some regions of the world. The only way before the humanity to come out of such struggles is just dialogue, dialogue and more dialogue. Resorting to rhetoric followed by armed struggle is cowardice and practically easy, but gathering around a table for frank talks can do wonders which will make the world a better place.

Time and again Qatar has reiterated its position of peaceful settlement of conflicts and disputes through sincere dialogue. Doha has proved it many a times and has been instrumental in resolving some of the worst conflicts through facilitating fruitful talks.

Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council H E Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti has underlined Qatar’s position aimed at settling disputes by peaceful means and through active participation in multilateral international action, in order to achieve peace, security, stability and development for the benefit of the peoples of the world.

In her address to the Baku Conference of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, Dr. Hamda added that Qatar has hosted many regional and international mediations as as a reliable mediator, it has been able to resolve many of the conflicts, the most recent of which was the prominent role in resolving the Afghan crisis by hosting talks between the various factions and the United States.

When thousands of Afghans and foreign nationals wanted to leave Afghanistan, Qatar was quick to find a way to evacuate them and to provide temporary accommodation, needed medical help and other facilities in Doha. The country’s efforts were not limited to this, but it immediately started operating an air bridge to transport relief materials to the Afghan people and constantly urged and encouraged other countries for continued humanitarian assistance for the struggling people.

The Deputy Speaker reminded the conference about the plight of the often forgotten Palestinian people who have been forced into constant conflict by the occupational force, to which the world turns a blind eye very often. The international community has been shirking its responsibility towards making the occupiers put an end to the relentless attack on the innocent people, denying them their fundamental right to live on their own land peacefully.

The world powers who got more influence with the occupiers should come up with a plan to initiate dialogue between the Palestinians and the occupiers to forge a lasting pact which will ultimately resolve the decades-old conflict.
