Supporting brothers

Qatar has always been at the forefront in helping nations facing crisis either in the form of economic hardships or natural calamities and has helped them with generosity. In a recent development, in implementation of the directives of H H the Amir, Qatar has announced that it has provided $60m in support to the Lebanese Army.

The announcement comes within the framework of the State of Qatar’s firm commitment to support the Republic of Lebanon, stand by the brotherly Lebanese people, and its firm belief in the importance and necessity of joint Arab action.

In July last year, Qatar had also announced support for the Lebanese Army with 70 tonnes of food per month. That support also came within the framework of Qatar’s constant endeavors to help resolve the political crisis in Lebanon, and its firm commitment to support the Republic of Lebanon and stand by the brotherly Lebanese people.

Last week, the second shipment of emergency aid provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) reached Afghanistan on board a Qatari Armed Forces plane to support the Afghan people as part of an urgent relief campaign due to the earthquake that recently struck the provinces of Khost and Paktika. The shipment contained 13 tonnes of urgent medical aid.

To assist different countries across the globe in their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Qatar has provided medical and humanitarian assistance to nearly 100 countries since the start of the global outbreak.

Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati in his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Thursday emphasised the robust bilateral ties between the two countries in all fields, expressing his thanks to Qatar for announcing the contribution of $60m to support the Lebanese Army, saying that his country lauds Qatar’s permanent standing by its side and its constant support for its military and security forces.

Commander of the Army of the Republic of Lebanon General Joseph Aoun has also expressed his gratitude to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for H H’s support to the Lebanese Army.

Meanwhile Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs H E Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, praised the directives of H H the Amir to provide a contribution from the State of Qatar worth $60m in support of the Lebanese Army, stressing that Qatar will spare no effort in helping always the brotherly Lebanese people at all times.
