Qatar is committed to a modern education curriculum that promotes research, scientific and technological awareness and adaptability with a cultural and moral balance. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has embarked on an initiative to develop a robust artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, towards integrating AI into the educational sector.

This project revolves around facilitating seamless access and optimal utilisation of big data to streamline and regulate educational processes. With evolving teaching models globally and the adoption of technology across educational platforms, it has become paramount to use technology-enhanced approaches to address educational priorities that would be safe, effective, and scalable.

Teachers now need technology and AI-powered services to increase the support available to students with disabilities, multilingual learners, and others who could benefit from greater adaptivity and personalisation in digital tools for learning. Also noteworthy is that school kids will be introduced to these services from an early age, building a tech-savvy generation accustomed to science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Besides, AI can automate admin tasks and reduce educators’ time grading homework and tests. AI can make quick work out of these tasks while at the same time offering recommendations for how to close the gaps in learning.

In this regard, the Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, while addressing the 13th Conference of Arab Ministers of Education organised by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and hosted by the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports in Morocco, said that the development of e-learning environment systems and AI and promoting the digital transformation of the educational environment, has become an integral part of any academic strategic plan in Qatar. The Ministry’s policies and trajectory aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030 which aims to digitally transform the country into an advanced economy by 2030, capable of sustaining its own development and providing a high standard of living, while preserving the well-being of generations to come.

According to the Minister, the tremendous and successive developments of information and communication technology and AI have led to economic, educational and cultural changes in all fields, especially after the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic. She emphasised the important role countries play in ensuring that all efforts are harnessed to translate their commitments into measures towards shaping the future of education. She stressed the need to exert all available means to support and advocate the continuation of the global movement to achieve the desired education transformation.
