End bloodshed now

The gruesome attack on Gaza by Israel continues without any concern for international law or regulations. Yesterday, an Israeli air attack hit apartment blocks in a residential area of the densely populated Jabalia refugee camp, killing and wounding hundreds, media quoted Gaza’s interior ministry.

During a UN emergency meeting on Monday, it was conveyed by the head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, Philippe Lazzarini, that an immediate humanitarian cease-fire has come to be viewed as a matter of life and death for millions.

As per the latest data provided by Gaza’s Ministry of Health, more than 8,500 people have been killed in this crime against humanity, 66% of them women and children. Catherine Russell, the Executive Director of UNICEF, disclosed that over 3,400 children lost their precious lives in these barbaric attacks, equating to more than 420 children being killed or injured in Gaza each day.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri on Monday called on the International Labour Organization (ILO) for a resolute response to the perilous escalation in the Gaza Strip. This relentless escalation, characterised by the destruction of vital infrastructure and the mass displacement of Palestinians, flagrantly violates international rules and standards. The Labour Minister placed significant emphasis on the urgent and continuous delivery of relief convoys and humanitarian aid to the besieged Palestinian population. These people are enduring the horrors of relentless bombardment, and their dire circumstances demand unwavering support and assistance.

He said Qatar maintains a steadfast stance, condemning all manifestations of targeting civilians and the unjust taking of innocent lives, particularly those of women and children.

UN agencies have repeatedly warned that the basic services are crumbling, and medicine, food, water, and fuel are running out. They warned that the lack of clean water and safe sanitation is on the verge of becoming a catastrophe. It’s high time the international community comes together and put an end to this bloodshed and mindless bombing as Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN ambassador, said urging the Security Council to put “an end to this bloodshed, which constitutes an affront to humanity, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, and a clear and imminent danger for regional and international peace and security.”

Qatar is doubling up in its efforts through all communication channels to reduce the escalation and ensure the protection of civilians in Gaza. It is high time the international community came together and strongly pressed for an immediate halt to the firing and saving the lives of the innocents.
