Unwavering commitment to Gaza

Qatar has reiterated its unwavering commitment to ending the war in Gaza, backing the comprehensive peace plan put forward by US President Donald Trump. It forms part of a wider international effort in which Qatar has consistently played a central role, providing humanitarian aid, opening channels for dialogue, and supporting mediation between parties since the earliest days of the war.

Following the US President’s announcement of the regional peace plan, a joint statement was issued by the Foreign Ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, welcoming the US President’s efforts to end the war in Gaza.

Doha has also welcomed Trump’s proposal for a “Board of Peace” or “Peace Council” to oversee implementation, affirming its support for the United States acting as guarantor. Such a body, in Qatar’s view, is crucial to ensure that commitments are honoured and that accountability underpins the process. Yet Doha maintains that consensus among all parties remains the vital first step before practical implementation can begin, given that fragmented approaches have historically stalled meaningful progress.

Qatar has further reiterated its readiness to take on responsibilities in reconstruction, pledging to aid Gaza and its people in the aftermath of the ongoing Israeli onslaught. Its commitment goes beyond immediate relief, encompassing long-term efforts to rebuild infrastructure, restore essential services, and secure a sustainable future for the enclave. This consistent approach reflects Qatar’s support for initiatives that advance the Palestinian cause, promote peace, and preserve the dignity and rights of Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a formal apology to Qatar over phone to Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani following the September 9 attack on Doha that killed a Qatari citizen. President Trump extended guarantees that such incidents would not be repeated, underlining American commitments to protect Qatar’s sovereignty. Nonetheless, Doha has reserved the right to pursue legal action through international courts to ensure accountability and justice.

At the same time, diplomatic momentum continues to gather pace. More than a dozen states have recently recognised Palestine, sending a clear signal that the international community rejects the occupation, supports Palestinian statehood and that the status quo is internationally unacceptable. These moves add weight to call for a comprehensive settlement rooted in justice, reconstruction, and a lasting peace for Gaza.
