The State of Qatar attaches great importance to digital transformation in order to ensure development of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector within the framework of the National Vision 2030 to build an advanced society.
The State of Qatar has come a long way in this regard in terms of diversification and accomplishments of digital transformation projects and the use of information technology. The country is doing this out of its conviction that this sector is essential and has key role to achieve development, diversifying the national economy, and encourage more foreign investments in the country.
Therefore and within the framework of accelerating the digital transformation in the country, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) issued recently an Individual License for the Provision of Public Satellite Telecommunications Networks and Services to Starlink Satellite Qatar W.L.L. This License authorizes Starlink Satellite Qatar is aimed to provide satellite broadband Internet services to individuals and enterprises in the State of Qatar via the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation of SpaceX.
Starlink Satellite Qatar was established recently in Qatar by the leading international company SpaceX which is known for providing comprehensive global Internet service coverage. The company will provide with direct-to-consumer satellite Internet service and which is designed specifically for businesses and high-demand users.
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is working to build advanced digital skills by training and conducting an evaluation of the ecological system for the digital economy in the country. This is aimed at improving “the growth opportunities necessary for hydrocarbon-independent economic diversification”.
The License granted to Starlink Satellite Qatar contributes to enhancing the availability of telecommunications services in remote locations away from the mainland, especially in areas that are not covered yet. In less than 50 days, Qatar will receive more than 1.5 million of visitors and lovers of the football games to attend the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the use of advanced technologies will allow this tournament to be the first-ever carbon-free World Cup.
Qatar is committed to make the ICT sector play a key role to reduce carbon emissions by 20% by 2030.
The State of Qatar realizes the importance of this sector to build a developed society in all fields, and as the world today lives in the era of knowledge-based economy, and the era of high speed communication. So, policy makers in Qatar believe that there is no progress in development programmes and advancement without achieving tangible outcomes in this sector while keeping pace with scientific and technological development.
The state has prepared the infrastructure for implementation of such programs and development projects.
