A number of global organisation and survey platforms have declared Qatar as the safest country in the world and the region in recent years which testifies achievements made by the authorities concerned, mainly the Ministry of Interior through tireless efforts.
Qatar has been ranked the most peaceful country in the Middle East and North Africa, according to the 17th edition of the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2023. The ranking also placed Qatar 21st in the world, recording a jump of two spots this year. The index ranks 163 independent states and territories according to their level of peacefulness and is produced by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP).
It measures the state of peace across three domains: the level of Societal Safety and Security, the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict, and the degree of Militarisation. “Qatar remains the most peaceful country in the region, a position it has held since 2008. It is the only country in the region to be ranked in the top 25 most peaceful countries globally,” GPI stated.
In January 2023, Qatar was named as the safest country in the world, according to the Numbeo Crime Index by Country 2023.  Qatar had topped the index in the last five years after regaining the number one spot from Japan in 2019. Numbeo is the world’s largest cost of living database. It is also a crowd-sourced global database of quality of life data, housing indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transport quality, and other statistics.
Earlier in April 2023, Doha had been ranked in the top 10 of the safest global tourist destinations in a survey by UK security training outfit ‘Get Licensed’. Asia has five destinations in the top 10 list, Kyoto, Taipei, Singapore, Tokyo and Doha.
According to the survey, cities were ranked using several safety factors as parameters, including crime and homicide rates, trust in police and worries about being mugged or robbed. Get Licensed compiled results from 100 of the top global tourist cities.
Also in another report released in January this year, Qatar’s capital city Doha was named among the top cities to live in the World Best Cities 2023 rankings by Resonance Consultancy, a leading global advisor on placemaking, branding and marketing for the world’s best cities, districts, developments and destinations.
According to Resonance Consultancy, it ranks global cities using a combination of statistical performance and qualitative evaluations by locals and visitors in 24 areas grouped into six core categories.
