FIFA concluded the latest sales period for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 recently and again received enormous interest from fans across the world for the first-ever football showpiece to be held in the Middle East and the Arab world. The game’s governing body received 23.5 million ticket requests in the period which started in the first week of April, following the final draw for the World Cup which was held in Doha on April 1.
Fans from the host country once again sent the biggest number of applications along with the enthusiasts from Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the USA. The most coveted matches included Argentina v Mexico, Argentina v Saudi Arabia, England v USA and Poland v Argentina. Fans, who requested tickets, will know the status of their applications through a FIFA email at the end of this month.
The compact nature makes this year’s World Cup a unique event as it is the first time that fans can apply for up to two matches on the same day at the beginning of the tournament. Fans, who were unable to apply, will have another chance to secure some of the most sought-after tickets during the next first-come, first-served period, which will be launched on the FIFA website in due course.
In March, fans worldwide secured over 800,000 tickets after the first sales phase.
Qatar is expecting to host 1.5 million fans during the game’s biggest celebration from November 21 to December 18. The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy on Friday also announced the availability of new accommodation options for all ticket holders.
According to the announcement, fans now have access to a greater range of accommodation options when visiting the Host Country Accommodation Portal. Fans can stay in the same place throughout the tournament – helping to minimise travel costs while significantly reducing their carbon footprint.
A variety of fan villages, which all feature a range of facilities, including cabin-style accommodation, as well as different types of private holiday homes, situated in locations throughout the country are up for grabs for the fans.
With all the preparations on track and the infrastructure ready, Qatar is on course to host a World Cup which will go down in history as one of the best editions ever.
