57 sporting events among 182 lined up in Qatar for 2014

DOHA: A number of events, some of them high-profile conferences, sporting events and exhibitions, are lined up in Qatar for 2014. A total of 182 events are scheduled for the year, with the sporting fixtures taking the cake with 57 events. 
The country has got maximum number of events in February and November, followed by March and May, whereas July and August have very few events, according to the new Doha Events issued by the National Committee for Coordinating Conferences and Events. 
The second and 11th months of the year with a comparatively pleasant weather have 26 events lined up, while March has 25 events. 
The surprising thing in the programmes calendar is the huge number of events in the hot month of May, which has 24 events.
The Doha Events lists various programmes under other occasions such as Traffic Week, symposiums, charity day and environment seminars.
Of the 182 events, 56 conferences and 51 exhibitions are listed in the schedule for 2014.
“Qatar has now become a high-profile country for hosting a number of important events and world conferences in the region. The increasing number of conferences of political, economic and sports are influencing the course of events have gained the attention of intellectuals, politicians and athletes from different parts of the world,” says Ahmad bin Mohammad bin Jabar Al Thani, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Co-operation Affairs and Head of the National Committee for Coordinating Conferences and Events.
The maximum numbers of sports events are in December and February. The last month of the year has 11 major sporting events, while February has 10. In February, major sports events are H H the Emir’s Bowling 2014, Qatar Total Open of tennis and First International Women Handball Championship organised by the Qatar Women’s Sport Committee.
In December, major sporting events such as Qatar International Handball Tournament for Men, Tennis Open, International Bowling Open and Qatar Masters Chess Championship are lined up.
In November, major sports events such as International Swimming Championship, Swimming World Cup Arab Shooting Championship, Qatar International Volleyball Open Championships and Qatar and Asian Junior Tennis Championships are held.
In 2014, Doha will hold major conferences such as Seventh International Petroleum Technology conference in January, Western Asia Regional Preparatory Meeting for the UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and Seventh GCC Quality Conference in February. In April, it has Arab Radiology Congress and Middle East Forum on Quality Improvement in Healthcare. In May, the major event was Arab Water Conference. In June, it has IATA Annual General Meeting and World Conference of the World Heritage Committee.
