Doha, Qatar: For over five months now, my fridge has been empty, said Umm Samir, 63, as she described the difficult situation of her family since the death of her husband many years ago, which caused her a lot of trouble and made her desperate for help.
She took handover of a food voucher provided by Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), under the project of “Distributing Food Parcels to Poor Families Affected by War in Gaza.”
Umm Samir added: “I have received no humanitarian aid since more than one year and a half. I cannot even afford to refill my gas cylinder to cook food for my 15 children and grandchildren. In addition, my children are jobless, because there is no work in Gaza. We often have to borrow from our neighbours.”
With this assistance, the happy old woman would be able to meet the needs of her family members.
Dr. Akram Nassar, head of QRCS’s office in Gaza, said the project was part of QRCS’s humanitarian interventions to support poor families and alleviate their suffering.
Over the past three months, 1,995 families have benefited from the project in Gaza at a total cost of $360,000.
