Doha: The Azerbaijan Embassy in Doha celebrated on May 28 the 105th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic.
The Independence Day celebration was held in an official reception in Ritz-Carlton Doha.
The event was attended by Minister of Municipality H E Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of State and President of Qatar National Library H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ambassador Ibrahim Fakhro, Ambassador of Singapore to Qatar and Dean of Asian Ambassadors Group H E Jai Sohan Singh, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions and offices of international organisations accredited in Qatar; guests representing Qatari governmental authorities and local Azerbaijani community joined the celebration event.
In his welcome speech the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Qatar H E Mahir Aliyev briefed the guests about the dynamic and sustainable development of relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar in political, economic, social and other fields.
He expressed satisfaction with high level of existing political dialogue between the two leaders based on historical and cultural ties of the two friendly nations. The Ambassador also declared the keenness of Azerbaijan to further maintain and foster existing mutually beneficial cooperation with Qatar in various directions, be it in bilateral or multilateral formats.
To mark the occasion, Azerbaijani and Qatari officials held a traditional cake-cutting ceremony.
The event continued with folk dances performed by pop folklore dance ensemble “Jangi” accompanied by Azerbaijani national music as well as reception which included some traditional Azerbaijani national dishes and sweets.
