Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched an online Zakat calculator to ease the process of alms-giving on its website. The users can easily calculate the amount of Zakat on their money, gold, stocks and livestock.
“Zakat calculator is an online free service provided by RAF to the individuals wanted to calculate Zakat in a bid to give it to those deserving," said Ahmad Yusuf Al Fakhro, Head of Financial Resources Development Sector and Media.
The initial version of Zakat calculator is targeted to individual and RAF plans to upgrade it so the companies can also use it. Regarding the calculation of Zakat on stocks, Fakhro said: “The calculator is connected with the companies listed at stock exchange and the figures are updating automatically."
RAF is studying to add more features in the next version of the Zakat calculator like currency exchange and make it available on the pages of other website under RAF logo as a free service.
Zakat calculator will be also added to the app of RAF. The calculation is easy, for example, if a user want to calculate Zakat on his money, first of all, he will have to select Hijri or Gregorian year, then enter the total amount of money and click for processing. The result given by the calculator is payable through Zakat amount.
To calculate Zakat amount in gold, the user first select year, then weight of gold, then carat as there are options for 24 and 10 carat. The users can also calculate Zakat on livestock such as camel, sheep and goat.
Using the calculator, the user can calculate Zakat for shares, with the possibility to give Zakat directly through the programme.
