Doha: Welcoming the holy month of Ramadan, the Indonesian diaspora in Qatar from members of the Indonesian Moslem Society in Qatar Association (IMSQA) and the Indonesian Community Association in Qatar (PERMIQA) held a virtual Quranic Competition with 323 participants.

The activity was divided into several types of competitions, such as Musabaqah Hifzhil Quran (memorizing the Quran), Musabaqah Fahmil Quran (understanding the Quran), Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (reading the Quran), Adhan, and Speeches.

The competition,  divided into 23 categories, was held online for a whole month, starting from the preliminary round, which was held in each region (Doha, Messaied-Wakra, Dukhan, and Al Khor). The competition was then closed online by the Head of Section of the Social and Cultural Affairs the Indonesian Embassy in Doha, Ali Murtado on March 26.

This virtual Musabaqah for Indonesian diaspora children has been going on since 2015. At first, the type of competition that was contested was only Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran. However, the types of competition increased year by year including Musabaqah Hifzil Quran, Musabaqah Fahmil Quran, Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran, Speeches, and Adhan.

“This virtual Musabaqah every year always gets a great response from the community, especially the Quranic Kindergartens in Qatar, which is the driving force for this activity,” said Samtoni, Chair of this year’s Virtual Musabaqah Committee. The winners were awarded trophies, vouchers, and certificates of appreciation.

Apart from the community, the implementation of event also received full support from the Indonesian Embassy in Doha.

“One of the tasks of the Indonesian Embassy in Doha is to empower Indonesian people abroad. We hope that from these competitions, the Indonesian Muslim youth not only capable of reading the Quran, but also convey the message of peace in the Quran globally,” said Ali Murtado, from the Indonesian Embassy.
