Doha: Barwa yesterday announced that work on all amenities inside Barwa City were completed and units handed over to tenants to prepare for soft opening of their shops.
The city is now 90 percent occupied and will become more vibrant once shops and restaurants open.
The residential city in Mesaimeer is a self-sufficient community, offering 128 buildings with 6,000 residential units and a capacity to accommodate up to 25,000 residents.
Among the buildings, many amenities have been divided into East Amenities and West Amenities.
The East Amenities provides a school with a capacity of 2,000 students, a shopping centre, a multi-purpose hall, a big mosque (Juma mosque), and two play grounds, one of which has public toilets. It also has two zones in northeast and southeast of the city, each consisting of a mosque and a kindergarten.
The West Amenities provides a school with a capacity of 2,000 students, a grand mosque bigger than the Juma mosque and a commercial complex over two floors — the first floor has shops and second will to serve as a food court.
It also provides a bank, a huge fitness centre, and two play grounds; one of them with public toilets.
Similar to the East Amenities, there are two zones in northwest and southwest of the city.
The Northwest zone has a mosque and a kindergarten and the southwest zone hosts two villas which are part of the ‘Baytna’ passivehaus experiment, and a kindergarten near the villas.
All schools and kindergartens in Barwa City are leased by Newton International School.
One school and two kindergartens are operational while the remaining school and two remaining kindergartens are to open this September.
Lulu Hypermarket is another anchor tenant in the city as the popular hypermarket has signed a deal with Barwa to lease the shopping centre and the multi-purpose hall next to it.
Lulu Hypermarket is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2014. The Peninsula
