DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has revoked a temporary recall of Nan and Aptamil, two popular infant milk formula, saying they do not pose any proven health hazards.
Laboratory tests on samples of the products have shown that they are safe for consumption and meet Qatari health standards, SCH said yesterday.
SCH ordered a temporary recall of the products from the market after it received complaints from several customers of an unpleasant smell.
Tests have shown that the smell was caused by a chemical reaction when water is added to the vitamin contents in Aptamil.
As for Nan, one of the additives, fish oil, is the source of the unpleasant smell, SCH said.
It indicated that those ingredients do not pose any hazards to children’s health.
Following complaints, SCH collected samples of both products from different outlets and ordered a temporary suspension of sales as a precautionary measure, said an SCH statement.
SCH said it has been working closely with other departments concerned to ensure the safety of food in the local market, especially those meant for children.
It urged the public to immediately contact authorities on the following telephone numbers if they have any doubts about the quality of food they buy from the market.
