Doha: Al Rayyan defender Moose Haroon said that his team’s progress in Qatar Stars League (QSL) this season will be tough, long and hard, but the team is taking it step by step.
In an interview with the QSL online, the seasoned player said all his team’s focus is on the the upcoming match against defending champions Lekhwiya.
“Our next match against Lekhwiya in Round 7 is the most crucial match for us; everyone knows this match is considered a difficult one. Lekhwiya is still defending their title and are strong team capable of overcoming their current negative results, but we are preparing well,” said the defender.
He added: “I disagree with whoever says that the current league fixtures have been easy or in favour, this is completely untrue. The only factor which has led to our success is winning our games without relying on other teams’ results. This is crucial for Al Rayyan to stay strong and move forward in the league,” he added.
Commenting of the next game versus Lekhwiya, Haroon said there will be not much pressure of winning for his side against Lekhwiya.
“Despite the fact that it is a tough game, it is only three more points for us, in another words the winning of either team doesn’t mean that they are getting closer to the league title just yet,” he said.
Giving reasons behind Al Rayyan’s perfect return to the QSL, Haroon said “There are lots of reasons behind Al Rayyan superiority this season, one of which is the new young players breaking through, both foreign and locals as well as keeping Tabata,” he said.
“Our experienced Head Coach Jorge Fossati too has been a great addition; he found the right formation for the team. Also it is important to mention the Al Rayyan fans that always support us from the stands.”
Haroon pointed out that most Qatari football fans adore Al Rayyan.
“I can say that 75% of the spectators love Al Rayyan which is number one in Qatar followed by Al Arabi.”
Commenting on the nominations for Al Rayyan to win the league title
“It is hard to make such claims as we are still in Round 6 of the first stage of the campaign. The league is still long and hard, and there some circumstances that may hinder the teams such as injuries and suspensions, he said before praising an overall team’s performance and specifically defenders.
“Thanks to Allah for such a strong performance which I hope to keep up.
I believe that Fossati’s plan and tactics created harmony and understanding between all defenders and between all positions on the pitch in general,” he said.
