DOHA: The support the various sub-committees are receiving from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 48th Artistic Gymnastics World Championships Doha 2018 underlines Qatar’s keenness and its commitment towards hosting global sporting events, says Mohammed Abdullah Al Meer, Vice Chairman of the Financial Affairs Committee.

As the LOC intensifies its efforts ahead of the Oct 25 to Nov 3 championships to be held at the Aspire Dome, Al Meer spoke about the readiness and steps being taken towards a great hosting of the world event.

“The financial support for the organisation of the World Cup reflects the keenness to launch this tournament in a way that confirms Qatar’s global regulatory position for major events,” he said.

“We are also cooperating with the rest of the committees in order to achieve success in general. We in the Finance Committee work in tandem with the other committees and everyone is seeking to achieve success. Our main objective is to present the best picture of Qatari organisation to the world.”

The financial rewards for winners at the World Cup will be in accordance with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) rules and standards.

Al Meer said: “We are committed to awarding the winners as per the regulations of FIG and what has been agreed with them by the Local Organising Committee including the medals and other prizes. Such international championships will be private financial areas defined by the international federation.

“This tournament witness the largest participation in gymnastics history and this is an incentive for us to work towards making it a big success,” he added. Meanwhile, Rashid Odeiba, Deputy Director for Marketing and Communication, said that the 2018 world gymnastics shall be promoted and delivered in a top class way.

“The high level of work within the various committees reflects the clear desire to reach the highest level as the competition approaches,” he said, adding: “The Marketing Committee has been keen to set up many events to promote the championship so that the public has the opportunity to follow up.

“And we have been keen to hold promotional events in the places where people get a chance to get acquainted with the World Gymnastics Championships in Doha.”

On the committee’s cohesion, Rashid said: “We have cooperated in our work with the rest of the committees and we thank all the committees and aspire to take the organisation to the desired results together, which reflects the country’s leadership.”
