Doha: Promising youngster Azlan Amjad overcame Sadam Mehawesh to storm into the semi-final of the Radisson Blu-Olympic Sports, keeping himself in the hunt for yet another title.
Amjad, who won last year’s title in the professional category, registered a 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 to reach the last four stage of the tournament.
The talented player was hardly troubled by his opponent as he marched into the last four stage comfortably.
Also qualifying for the semi-final stage in the professional category were A Wahab Ishaq, Umair Zaman and Mohamed Al Saied.
Ishaq set aside the challenge of Mahmoud Fayez in straight games, while Zaman eased past Omar Ashraf 12-10, 11-7, 12/10,and Al Saied beat Ahmed Alian 11-9, 12-10, 11-6.
This year’s championship is the 15th edition of the professional and amateur squash championship and is being held under the guidance of Qatar Squash Federation (QSF). Professionals and amateur players are competing in ten different categories.
Players are competing in the over-45 years, Under-9, Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19 besides Men’s Level A, Men’s Level B and Ladies event. The event will conclude today. THE PENINSULA
