Doha: A shipping company was closed for 15 days by authorities for importing parcels without checking their contents and making sure that they are free of prohibited items.
In an exclusive statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) about the closure of one of the shipping companies for 15 day, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Talal Abdullah Al Malki said that the company imported parcels without checking their contents and making sure that they are free of prohibited items.
The news about the closure had been circulating on social media.
The concerned authorities in the state seized two shipments that the company had accepted and imported without fulfilling the conditions and took measures stipulated in the law.
Accordingly, the CAA decided to close the company and alert it on the necessity to amend the procedures for accepting incoming shipments to Qatar and submit a report to the authority about actions taken in this regard expeditiously.
CAA underlined that shipping companies must be fully aware of the contents of shipments and parcels before receiving and shipping, and to make sure that these shipments are free of any prohibited materials, noting that shipping companies bear legal responsibility for the contents of those shipments and parcels which they transport.
The Civil Aviation Authority called on all companies working in the field of shipping to check the contents of parcels, shipments and consignments, as stipulated by the law governing the import and export process, before receiving them, stressing that it will not hesitate to take all legal procedures and exercise full powers to any violation detrimental to the security of the homeland, and that, in cooperation with all concerned parties in the State, it will take all measures that prevent the entry of prohibited materials that harm the security and safety of the homeland and its citizens.
