Balochistan govt to sit-in at parliament

QUETTA: Balochistan government has announced to stage a sit-in against kidnapping for ransom in the province, Geo News reported.
Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Provincial Information Minister Jaffar Mandokhel announced to stage a sit-in outside the parliament on January 12, 2014, adding that the opposition and other parties would participate in it.
He said leaders of political parties would also hold a meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Jan 10. He further said they would also apprise the federal government over the situation.
He demanded of the law enforcement agencies to bring such kidnappings to an end.
Deadline for filing objections
LAHORE: Objections to the nomination papers for Local Government Elections in Punjab can be filed tomorrow as the six-day process of submitting the nomination papers has completed.
According to schedule‚ scrutiny of the nomination papers would take place from December 30 to January 4.
Appeals against acceptance or rejection of nomination papers would be filed on January 6 and 7, which will be disposed of from 8th to 11th of next month. 
Nomination papers can be withdrawn by January 12 and the list of contesting candidates with symbols would be published on January 13. 
Polling for Local Government Elections in the province will be held on January 30.
PM says naval defence secure
KARACHI: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has stated that Pakistan’s maritime defence is impregnable. 
Addressing midshipman passing out parade at Pakistan Naval Academy here yesterday, PM Nawaz said the nation is firmly behind Pakistan Navy and would ensure that it is equipped with latest weaponry and technology to safeguard national frontiers. 
The Prime Minister said: “today Pakistan is more stable and more democratic”. 
He pointed out that recent induction of indigenously made frigates‚ fast attack surface-to-surface missiles and acquisition of six modified P3C aircraft with latest avionics and sensors into Pakistan Navy will significantly add to the combat potential of the Naval force.
Plan for united Sindh opposition 
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Federal Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, yesterday discussed the possibility of forming a united opposition in Sindh, especially in the backdrop of the impending local bodies elections, Geo News reported.
Sources said that a delegation of the MQM and the Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in a meeting held at the Governor House here discussed Karachi law and order situation and some other matters. 
MQM delegation apprised the interior minister that no sooner do they raise voice as a major opposition party in Sindh against the misdoings of the provincial government than the political victimisation of the MQM activists intensifies in the garb of Karachi operation. 
The meeting said to have finalised a joint strategy of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and MQM under which the two parties will continue holding meetings in future relations in future.
