DOHA: A new compound for over 3,200 expatriate workers will be built shortly in the Industrial Area. Spanish company Ecisa will start construction of this project in January.
The compound will be located in a parcel that has a total of 128,500 sq m and the project will cost over QR193m.
A total of 15 buildings which will have 816 bedrooms, 24 kitchens, leisure areas and all necessary services for a total of 3,264 workers will comprise in this complex.
It will also include a mosque, a car washing facility, a reception and administration area, and a workshop.
Built on the same grounds, and with different use, the project includes the implementation, by a metal structure, of 12 warehouses that will house 120 workshops and garages, with an approximate area of 50,000 sq m.
However, the total floor area will reach 82,000 sq m, after a construction period of 20 months. This project is for Sheikh Nasir bin Abdullah Al Thani, who also owns the grounds where the compound will be located.
Enrique Peláez, Director of International Development of Ecisa, said that the project “meets all legal requirements, and will be much more at the forefront compared to similar ones which are 10 or 15 years old.”
“This will be the equivalent of a hotel; it will be much more modern and appropriate for the needs of workers, constructed based on prefabricated concrete structures, and adapted to the new law that requires rooms to have a maximum of five people and no bunks,” he added.
Harinsa Qatar, subsidiary of Ecisa and in charge of the construction, will employ a staff of 20 highly trained technicians and a large number of workers for this project, which in its busiest phase could occupy up to 700 workers.
Currently, the staff of Ecisa in Qatar includes 40 Spanish workers, about 100 Arab technicians and approximately 700 workers.
This is the eighth project for Ecisa in Qatar, which has also built a data centre with high security systems located in Doha’s technology park, with a budget of QR96m, and Bin Samikh Tower, a 44-storey building that will house a five-star hotel in the centre of Doha costing QR192m.
The company is also responsible for a luxury residential building in Doha and Qatar’s new military academy, projects totalling QR220m which were delivered in 2010.
