Emir approves setting up of public utilities panel

DOHA: A key panel is being set up to help the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) remove hurdles in executing pubic projects by coordinating with various state and non-government agencies, including the private sector.

The panel, to be known as coordination committee, will have the authority to take urgent decisions, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported yesterday. The panel is to be led by a senior official of Ashghal and whose deputy is also to be from Ashghal, but the traffic department, transport planning section of the civic ministry, the environment ministry and utility distributors (Kahramaa) will have their representative each on it.

The panel is to meet once a week or whenever necessary as convened by the chairman and will be required to frame its statute regarding its functioning. The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, yesterday ratified the cabinet decision No. 68 of 2012 for setting up the coordinating committee for services and public utilities.

The decision stipulates that the Public Works Authority (PWA) is to establish a panel to be named the coordinating committee for services and public utilities.

Meanwhile, the Emir yesterday ratified the cabinet decision No. 67 of 2012 amending some provisions of the decision No. 11 of 2009 reorganising the population standing committee.

The decisions stipulates that the texts of the two articles (3/ first para); /10/of the referred cabinet decision No. 11 of 2009, be replaced by the two following texts: Article (3/first para) : A panel is to be formed under the chairmanship of the secretary general of the developmental planning general secretariat and membership of two representatives of the developmental planning general secretariat , one of them will be the deputy chairman and the other will be a member and a rapporteur and the membership of a representative of each of: The Qatari Armed Forces; the Ministry of The Interior; the Supreme Education Council (SEC); the Ministry of Labour; the Ministry of Social Affairs; the Supreme Council of Health (SCH); the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA); Qatar Statistics Authority; Qatar Petroleum (QP); and Qatar Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (QCCI).
